Established in 2011, we are one of the eight CEE teams at UC Berkeley. We compete in the annual international Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition hosted by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) for which we design and fabricate a 5-foot scaled balsa wood tower and simulate real-life earthquakes on it using a shake table. To optimize our tower, we utilize SAP2000 to analyze the seismic performance of various designs before constructing and testing the physical model on the shake table. Additionally, Rhino helps us create clean structural and architectural 3D models to present to the judges. We collaborate as a team and travel to various locations every year to showcase our tower's structural, architectural, and geotechnical components at the competition.
